Australian National Eisteddfod 2018

In 40 years of teaching, 2018 is the first time Dianna Nixon has entered students in an Eisteddfod. With the students having so much good work prepared, Dianna thought it would be good for them to share it in the Australian National Eisteddfod. In every singing section we entered, students won places or highly commended. Our singers, most of them competing in a singing Eisteddfod for the first time, presented really well, and made the most of the opportunity. It was lovely to see them supporting each other, and being very generous with the other competitors.

Big congrats to all the WVMT competitors for their attention to detail, work ethic, and generosity. We’ll do this again next year, particularly if the ANE bring an adjudicator of the quality of Claire Lyon again. Claire did an amazing job and was so supportive through the long weekend of adjudicating.

We also entered 5 pianists in the Piano Eisteddfod. Very stiff competition here as many of the competitors have been performing in Eisteddfods since a young age. But still a very worthwhile experience as it is great to see what people of a similar age are doing, hear other repertoire, and test student’s ability to handle the nerves of a public competition. All great for resilience-building, and AMEB exam prep.
